Spring Awakening: Moving Stagnant Qi with the Wood Element & AcuAroma
Mar 04, 2026
Spring in Traditional Chinese Medicine is governed by the Wood Element — the energy of growth, vision, direction, and upward movement. Just as sap rises in trees, Qi rises in the body. And if that Qi is stagnant after winter’s inward season, we feel it. This time of year is Yin inward energy beginning to turn to Yang outward energy and things can sometimes get stuck.
Stagnation in the Wood Element often shows up as:
- Irritability or frustration
- Tight shoulders, hips and jaw
- Ribcage tension
- Hormonal fluctuations, mood swings
- Indecision
- Headaches
The Liver system’s function ensures the smooth flow of Qi. When it becomes constrained, pressure builds. The Gallbladder supports decisiveness and flexibility in teh muscles, ligaments and tendons — both physical and emotional. Spring is when we must help this energy move.
This is where AcuAroma becomes powerful.
🌿 Blue Tansy on Liver 3 & Liver 14
Blue Tansy carries a cooling, anti-inflammatory, emotionally soothing quality. Energetically, it softens heat and frustration. It also allows playfulness to carry that energy flow with ease.
- Liver 3 (LIV3) — located between the first and second toes, about an inch from the webbing — is one of the most important points for moving stagnant Liver Qi. Applying Blue Tansy diluted to 15% with a carrier oil encourages emotional flow, eases PMS, and reduces irritability.
- Liver 14 (LIV14) — located along the lower border of the ribcage in line with the nipples — is the “Gate of Hope.” It helps release emotional congestion stored in the chest and diaphragm. Allowing a better flow of breath and reduced constriction. Allowing a ray of hope.
Together, these points help frustration soften into clarity.
🌿 Sweet Marjoram on Gallbladder 21 & 34
Sweet Marjoram is warming, comforting, and deeply relaxing to the muscular system, ligaments & tendons (the sinews).
- Gallbladder 21 (GB21) — at the high point of the shoulders — releases upper body tension and our “carried burdens.”
- Gallbladder 34 (GB34) — just below the border of the kneecap, about 1 inch from the head of the fibula — is the influential point of the tendons. It supports flexibility in both body and decision-making and releases tension in the lower body.
Applying Sweet Marjoram essential oil at a 50% dilution to these points helps release the sinews and restore fluid movement.
🌿 Laurel on Yin Tang
Yin Tang (third eye chakra), located between the eyebrows, calms the Shen and quiets mental agitation.
Laurel essential oil diluted to 25-50% supports clarity, confidence, and leadership energy. When applied gently to Yin Tang, it widens perspective and restores strategic thinking — the higher expression of Wood.
